Didn't Get Into Y Combinator? You Don't Need It to Access a Network

July 4, 20265 min read

Short answer: if you applied to YC and didn't get in, look at what you were actually applying for — the investor network, the mentors, and the room full of talented founders to collaborate with and scale alongside. You can access almost all of that right now, without an acceptance email. The cheque is one thing; the network and the collaborations are available today.

What you really wanted from YC

You probably applied to tap YC's network: the investors, the people, the mentors, and a great place to meet other highly talented entrepreneurs. Fundamentally, you felt you didn't have enough of that — and wanted more. That's smart. It's exactly why so many of us apply.

The dream is to be plugged into that network, tap the resources, form collaborations, and scale your business. So here's the honest question worth sitting with: what's actually stopping you from doing that right now?

Do you really need YC for this?

Do you need a specific accelerator just to find sharp people and collaborate — exchanging knowledge and resources so you both scale? For that specific purpose: no.

To be fair, YC is a fantastic orchestrator. It curates only the best, which guarantees a high-quality experience — that curation is real value. But the underlying function (assemble great founders, connect them, help them work together) isn't exclusive to YC. Other tools already do it.

The tools that already exist

There are platforms where hundreds of founders are already assembled, an AI finds you the best collaboration opportunities, and you plan the collaboration, sign the contract, and manage payouts — all in one place. The difference from an accelerator:

  • No equity given up. You pay with revenue share, not dilution.
  • No application gate. You can start today, not next batch.
  • Aligned, not free. No one works for free — but you work aligned, amplifying, complementing, and aggregating each other.

My favorite one, Ordana, has nearly 100 startups with an estimated $475K of total resources for any startup to plug right into through revenue-share collaborations. Join today and you can have a finished collaboration — fully planned and signed with the right people — within about two weeks.

The takeaway

Getting rejected from YC isn't the end of your access to a network — it was never the only door to one. You don't need funding to plug into talented founders and scale through collaboration. You just need better collaborations, and those are available now.
